It’s no secret that we’re a fan of turmeric. We have no shortage of ways to incorporate this powerhouse spice at breakfast, lunch and dinner: Scrambled Tofu, Turmeric Breakfast Hash, South-of-the-Border Savory Waffles, Turmeric Smoothie, Lemon & Turmeric Energy Balls, Better than Cheese Queso, Turmeric Squash Soup, Rosemary Stuffed Mushrooms and The Creamiest Mac & Cheese… to name a few!
Due to its multiple benefits, Dr. Greger (and many others) recommend a daily dose of turmeric. It’s been widely studied as a carcinogen blocker. Turmeric also looks promising when it comes to a variety of inflammatory diseases. It’s very affordable, easy to incorporate, and, with so many benefits, why not??
You can find turmeric in the spice section at most grocery stores. Since I make a point to get 1/2 teaspoon daily, I usually buy it in 8 to16 oz containers at the HomeGoods store or online. Visit our turmeric post to learn more.
Though there’s turmeric hiding in this treat, all you’ll taste is the deliciousness of mango! Rather than buying mangoes fresh and having to chop them up yourself, we recommend stocking up on mango chunks in the frozen fruit section.
Frozen fruits and veggies are awesome for multiple reasons. 1 – They’re conveniently already washed and chopped. 2 – Since they’re picked at peak ripeness, they’re just as (or more) nutritious and flavorful than fresh. 3 – You don’t have to worry about them going bad quickly since they’ll keep for 8-12 months in the freezer. 4 – Especially when on sale, they can often be cheaper than fresh. 5 – Most don’t have anything added (salt, sugar, etc.).
Back to mangoes – like other fruits, they’re full of nutrients. These aren’t the manufactured vitamins and minerals found in pills, these are the real deal! It’s best to get our vitamins and minerals from whole foods, in their most natural state.
