We tried Veestro! Here’s what we think.

Eating out has been a rarity these last many months. So, to get a little bit of the restaurant experience without the restaurant, we’ve been taking advantage of meal kit deliveries. And one that I’ve especially enjoyed and want to mention is Veestro (*Affiliate link).

Veestro is an 100% plant-based meal delivery company, which is pretty uncommon. Most companies like this offer vegetarian or vegan options, but they really don’t have much to choose from week-to-week. There are a few companies out there that are entirely plant-based, like Veestro, which is nice because you can choose any meal on the site – which means wayyy more options (like 50! ?).

Although the Veestro meals are entirely plant-based, some of the ingredients in the meals are excessively processed and not health-promoting. For example, some of the meals contain oil, vital wheat protein and soy protein isolate… not good. With that said, they do have lots of healthy options that are filled with minimally processed plants. And the majority of the options are likely healthier than what you’ll get eating out at a restaurant. Some of my favorites are the Beluga Lentil Braise, Golden Chickpea Stew, Moroccan Melange, and the Chinese Eggplant Stir Fry.

250x250 GeneralThe Veestro meals come entirely prepared and frozen and just require heating up in the microwave or oven. There’s an upside and downside to this. Downside: You’re not going to get a fresh, colorful, just-made meal. Like any other freezer meals, the reheating process takes a toll. Upside: your food is ready in 5 minutes. No dishes. No cooking. No grocery shopping. No effort.

Depending on the package you choose (10, 20 or 30 meals), meal prices range from $9.90 to $11.70 per serving. If you’re doing your own grocery shopping and cooking, that’s definitely not a good deal. Although compared to the rates of other companies like Veestro, it’s not a bad deal. Especially if you’re cooking for just you and don’t have the time (or effort ?) to shop and prepare food.

So when you get down to it, is Veestro worth it? It really depends on your situation. If you’re hoping to feed your large family a nice, fancy dinner… no dice. Might I recommend Purple Carrot or Hello Fresh instead. If you find yourself eating out most days, Veestro would probably be a healthier and cheaper option. If you’re single and don’t have the time, energy, or skills to cook, it’s a great option. If you need a healthy and filling meal to take to work, it’s worth considering.

Whatever your situation may be, it’s nice to have a plant-based option like Veestro! (*Affiliate link)
