The Latest Happenings: September Edition

September has arrived! Yes, technically we’re a week and a half in, but I’m just getting around to the September Latest Happenings post! I wish I could say that’s because I’ve been so busy… but really I just forgot..

So what’s new…

It’s raspberry season!

Nat has red and black raspberry bushes in her yard and I’m an unashamed mooch when it comes to her raspberries. ?? The berries came in late this season but strong! So we’ve been making lots of goodies with them like our Rockstar Raspberry Muffins (eating one as I type this), 4-Ingredient Berry Jam, and this delishhhh sweet potato peanut butter dessert toast ?… (expect these on the blog soon). They’re so good!

Natalie’s Mini-me

And just like that Macy is 11 weeks old!! It’s hard to believe it’s approaching 3 months since she was born, but she’s growing like a weed! Nat is getting back in the swing of things and enjoying the very occasional nights that Macy sleeps through. Very occasional. Macy was baptized a couple weeks ago in an adorable dress that her grandma made her. Of course all of her aunts, uncles, and grandparents are making certain that she’s the most spoiled. ?

Recipes and ingredients we’ve been playing with.

Here recently we’ve had fun playing with black salt, which is a type of salt that smells and tastes kind of sulfur-y. I know.. sounds gross. But it actually gives food an eggy flavor, which is how we’ve been incorporating it into recipes.

We’ve also been playing with Moong Dal, or mung beans. They’re a type of lentil that doesn’t really have much of a flavor, but when soaked, blended and then cooked, has an eggy texture… see where I’m going with this. So we’ve been creating some really good “egg” breakfast recipes. Today Nat made this omelet and doesn’t it look so good?! Perfect color and texture and flavor and not an egg in sight! Stay tuned for some “egg” breakfast recipes, hold the eggs! ?

This, that and the other

Makeup – I’m not sure if you should take my advice when it comes to makeup because I’m the furthest person from an expert. But, nonetheless, Nat gifted me a few different products from 100% Pure Cosmetics last Christmas and after 9 months of use, I think I can give an honest review.. I wasn’t a fan of the eyeliner, but the mascara and blush/eyeshadow are my new go-to’s. It is more expensive than the typically $3 Elf brand makeup I usually wear, although it does feel better to put “cleaner” products on my face everyday. If you’re looking for more natural makeup, skincare, etc. check them out – 100% Pure (*Not an affiliate link… we just like the products ?).

A few books I’m looking forward to reading these next couple months – How Not to Diet by Dr. Michael Greger. (If you haven’t read his How Not To Die book… get on it), Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell, Fiber Fueled by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, and Food Fray by Dr. Lisa Weasel. (*All Affiliate Links) Do you have any good book recs for us??

What’s new with you? We’d love to hear!
