The Latest Happenings: July Edition

We’re already a whole week into July?! How did this happen?

If you follow along with us on Wholly Plants you may have noticed a whole lotta nothing happening these last couple weeks. No new recipes. No emails. No social media posts. Zilch!

That’s because BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

Exciting thing #1:

On June 28th Nat made me an aunt and delivered a beautiful, healthy, perfect baby girl!!! Little Macy is the first baby in our family and we couldn’t be more elated!

As expected, Nat will be taking some time off of the blog. Although, I’m sure she will be creating and testing recipes sooner rather than later. Sitting back and relaxing is not her strong suit. ?

On the topic of pregnancy, I’ll mention.. When pregnant and eating a whole food, plant-based diet, a concern some have is they might not be getting enough nutrients. Ironically, a whole food, plant-based diet is the most nutrient-dense way to eat. By choosing beans over chicken and oatmeal over eggs, you’re giving your body more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants per calorie.. all things necessary for growing a healthy baby. By eating lots of unprocessed plants, your body can get those nutrients from foods (how nature intended), rather than relying heavily on prenatal vitamins (not how nature intended).

This just scratches the surface. Do your own research and then make the best decision for you! Nat did a ton of reading and research about nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some resources she recommends:

Second (wayyyy less) exciting thing:

My husband and I bought a house & moved! We’re first time homeowners, so the process of looking for and then buying a house was… a lot. We’re conditioned pros when it comes to moving though. We’ve lived in 7 different apartments in the last 5 years. ? To say that we’re happy to have a permanent place to call home is an understatement! After we got married we lived in Pierceton, IN and then Houston, TX. After that was Aspen, CO for a summer and then Fort Wayne, IN for a year. Now we’re back in our hometown!

With all of these big things happening, we decided to put the blog on the back burner. As life starts to get a little more normal, things will start to pick back up around here.

Other (not as) exciting things:

During our last couple months in Fort Wayne, my husband and I tried out Planet Fitness. I was skeptical at first but guys.. how totally 100% wrong was I!

The gym and equipment was just as nice as any other gym I’ve been to (Anytime Fitness, LA Fitness, Orange Theory, etc.). They also have rules against grunting, dropping weights.. being annoying/intimidating. And as a huge bonus, I didn’t have to pay for a membership. With my husband’s $20/month membership, he could take a guest everytime he went. So I just went with him for free. Unfortunately, since we moved, the drive wouldn’t be worth it for us to keep going there. But if you’re looking for a gym and there’s a Planet Fitness around, I highly recommend.

Eats & Drinks:

Here’s what I’ve been enjoying these last few weeks.

Eats and Drinks

I made our Chocolate 3-Layer Cake with Raspberry Fudge Icing for our dad’s birthday and ?. Perfection.

For the non-pregnant people who like fruity beer.. this Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ale is so good! I’ve have a few different beers from this brewery and have yet to be disappointed.

I’ve had a quart-size bag of black raspberries from Nat’s garden in my freezer from last year. I refused to eat them these last few months because then I’d be out and have to wait so long for more. Not anymore! Hello raspberry season! ? So this morning for breakfast I made black raspberry oatmeal topped with more back raspberries, ground flax, PB, and maple syrup. So good and so healthy!

What are your latest life happenings? We’d love to know!
